Tesla consents to pay $1.5 mln to settle claims over battery voltage decrease

Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) has consented to pay $1.5 million to settle guarantees a product update briefly decreased most extreme battery voltage in 1,743 Model S vehicles, court records show.

Proprietors of the vehicles will get $625 every, which is "many times the prorated value of the temporarily reduced maximum voltage," as per the proposed settlement records documented Wednesday in U.S. Locale Court in San Francisco.

Tesla didn't quickly react to a solicitation for input.

Attorneys for the proprietors who sued said the "voltage impediment was impermanent, with a 10% decrease enduring around 90 days, and a more modest 7% decrease enduring an additional 7 months before the remedial update was delivered in March 2020."

A U.S. judge set a Dec. 9 hearing on the proposed settlement.

The suit recorded in August 2019 affirmed Tesla delivered an over-the-air programming update that decreased the greatest voltage to which batteries on some Tesla Model S vehicles could be charged.

An ensuing update reestablished about 3% of the battery voltage in these vehicles, and a third update delivered in March 2020 was intended to completely reestablish the batteries' voltage over the long run as the vehicles are driven, the settlement records said.

Organization information shows 1,552 vehicles had greatest battery voltage completely reestablished and 57 have had battery swaps and for different vehicles the most extreme voltage should keep on being reestablished after some time, the settlement archives said.

The $1.5 million settlement incorporates $410,000 charges and expenses for the offended parties' lawyers.
