Birmingham Steeds Bring Home Second Consecutive USFL

  • 04-July-2023

The Birmingham Steeds have brought home the initial two titles of USFL 2.0.

The Steeds covered off their subsequent straight title run on Saturday night with a 28-12 win over the Pittsburgh Maulers, 28-12.

In two seasons with 24 all out games, the Steeds have posted a record of 21-3 under mentor Skip Holtz.

Again, Birmingham was led by league MVP Alex McGough, who threw four touchdown passes and gained another 64 yards rushing. The championship game's MVP receiver, Deon Cain, caught four passes for 70 yards and three scores. In two postseason game, McGough tossed eight score passes and no captures. He added 148 hurrying yards.

Birmingham pulled away from a 14-9 halftime score to win the game, despite Pittsburgh taking an early 3-0 lead. Birmingham then led 7-3 and never trailed again. The Steeds guard kept the Maulers out of the end zone; Pittsburgh's 12 focuses came on four field objectives from Chris Blewitt.

Canton, Ohio hosted the championship game for the second consecutive year.

The USFL at first appeared in 1983. Fox revived the association last year. Fox and NBC both televise the games. The title game showed up on NBC and Peacock.

Thus closes the hand-off of football seasons that began with the NFL, proceeded with multi week after the Super Bowl with the XFL, and finished up following a couple of ends of the week off cross-over with the USFL.

The subsequent stage for USFL players will be to see whether and how much their endeavors in the four-letter spring-and-summer association will bring about tryouts as well as program spots with NFL groups. McGough, a seventh-round pick of the Seahawks in 2017, has done what's needed to basically get some thought.
