Samsung Electronics has officially unveiled a suite of advanced security and privacy features in its upcoming One UI 8 update, set to debut with the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 at the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 9.
The update reinforces Samsung’s position as a leader in mobile security, with enhancements designed to support the growing demand for on-device AI processing and multi-device ecosystems.
A cornerstone of One UI 8 is the introduction of Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP). This feature allows applications to store and access data within their own encrypted environments. For instance, apps like Now Brief, Smart Gallery, and Samsung’s generative AI tools will operate within their respective data zones, eliminating cross-app data exposure risks.
KEEP works in tandem with Samsung Knox Vault, ensuring biometric and credential security at a hardware level.
Samsung is also strengthening its Knox Matrix system with real-time threat response capabilities. If a security anomaly is detected on any Galaxy device logged into a Samsung account, the system can automatically:
Sign out the compromised device
Alert all connected devices
Guide the user to a centralized dashboard for immediate response
This approach aims to prevent threat escalation across a user’s Galaxy ecosystem — which may include smartphones, tablets, wearables, and smart TVs.
In a forward-looking move, Samsung is introducing post-quantum cryptography to its Secure Wi-Fi feature. One UI 8 will utilize ML-KEM, a NIST-standard algorithm developed to protect against future quantum computing threats.
This technology secures user data on public and private Wi-Fi networks, aligning Samsung’s security strategy with emerging global standards.
Samsung has also redesigned security dashboards and permission interfaces in One UI 8 to improve user accessibility. With clearer visualizations and in-depth usage logs, users can now monitor how their data is being accessed and used in real time.
Privacy settings, app permissions, and protection tools are consolidated into a more intuitive layout, offering enhanced transparency without compromising functionality.
One UI 8 will first ship with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, followed by a phased rollout to other eligible Galaxy devices, including the Galaxy S24 series, Fold/Flip 6 and 5 models, and select Galaxy A-series phones.
Samsung has not yet published the full list of supported models, but beta testing for One UI 8 is expected to begin shortly after Unpacked for select regions and devices.
With One UI 8, Samsung aims to set a new benchmark for smartphone privacy and security. The company’s focus on AI-aware protections, device-wide threat mitigation, and quantum-resilient architecture indicates a broader strategy to future-proof its mobile ecosystem.
As AI, cloud computing, and IoT integration continue to accelerate, Samsung’s latest security innovations position the Galaxy brand at the forefront of user-centric digital protection.
