The creative team behind the cult stoner comedy Grandma’s Boy is reuniting for a new R-rated comedy, Mini War, with Luke Wilson and Vanessa Hudgens joining the cast.

Nick Swardson and Allen Covert, who co-wrote the 2006 comedy alongside Barry Wernick, have teamed up once again to write Mini War with Joel David Moore, who appeared in Grandma’s Boy alongside Linda Cardellini and will direct the new film. The project arrives as Grandma’s Boy celebrates its 20th anniversary.

Mini War stars Luke Wilson as Joe, an easygoing stoner who unexpectedly inherits a miniature golf course from his late uncle. Hoping to sell the property and move forward with his life, Joe searches for a buyer who will preserve his uncle’s legacy. However, Darren, portrayed by Nick Swardson, owns the go-kart track across the street and has a very different vision. Darren plans to demolish the mini golf course to expand his go-kart business and pursue his dream of building a NazzKart empire.

Vanessa Hudgens portrays Olivia, who operates the Who Let the Hot Dogs Out roadside food stand located between the two competing attractions. She and a group of quirky local residents soon become caught in the escalating conflict between Joe and Darren as their competing ambitions spiral into an all-out battle.

The film is being produced by Jarod Einsohn, Joel David Moore of Balcony 9 Productions, and Limor Hakim of Level 1 Entertainment, alongside Grandma’s Boy producers Bill Todman Jr. and Edward Milstein of Level 1 Entertainment, as well as David Wachs and Ojan Missaghi of Toric Films.

The executive producer lineup includes Garrett Jason Greer, Casey James, Natalie Kline, Richard Lunam, Masha Lunam, Sharon Azrieli, Syed Ali Saeed, Cassandra Scerbo, James Macmillan, Raymond Merrill, Carmelo Chimera, Michael Laundon and Michael Bassick. Zachary Burgess serves as co-producer, while Arlie Day and Mike Page also co-produce the project and handle casting director duties.

Joel David Moore said, “Nick and I met on Grandma’s Boy 20 years ago, and we’ve been waiting for the right time to team up again on something special. With all feedback we get directly from fan conventions and on the road hearing from movie goers, we know that now is the perfect time to get indie comedy back into theaters. We’re thrilled to work together on Mini War and can’t wait to share it with our incredible fans.”
