Jessica Mauboy separated in tears after a candidate sang one of her songs on The Voice. Ella Monnery sang Little Things during her audition on the Channel 7 show with every one of the four coaches turning their chairs. Mauboy was noticeably moved by the contestant’s song choice and said to her subsequently: "Oh my god … thank you for sharing that song, that was awesome." Mauboy then, at that point began crying as she clarified what's going on with the tune. “That song I wrote about my mum,” the emotional coach said. “It’s really about not being heard, I guess, not being loved and nurtured enough, being kind of pushed down and suppressed almost. “I guess for me, writing that song about my mum was watching her struggles and her challenges,” Mauboy continued. “I’m so proud of that song and I’m so proud to be able to have you stand there and sing that song to me.” As Mauboy got it together, Monnery told the mentors that she showed up on The Voice last season also. “I made it through the blinds. I was on Team Kelly (Rowland). I won my battle and then went back home to New Zealand and got stuck there because of Covid,” she explained. “So I didn’t get to come back. That was devastating for me.” Monnery said she needed to give the unscripted TV drama "one more shot and ultimately decided to join Mauboy's team.
