Tesla Launches New Color Variants for Popular EV Models in North America

  • 09-May-2026

The Frost Blue and Marine Blue exterior color options for the Model 3 and Model Y have been added to Tesla's online configurator for its North American markets.

Tesla (TSLA) now bids the Deep Blue Metallic paint farewell after many years of use. For a very long period, it was part of Tesla's color palette.

The Deep Blue Metallic color has been phased out worldwide by Tesla. This hue is no longer available for new orders worldwide.

The Model 3 and Model Y RWD and AWD Premium trims come in Marine Blue, which was previously only available in Europe and Asia-Pacific. The Model 3 and Model Y Performance now come with Frost Blue, which was previously limited to the Model S and Model X.

Marine Blue and Frost Blue Metallic are two new hues that the electric car manufacturer added to the higher-end Model Y and Model 3 trim levels.

Instead of Deep Blue Metallic, the new Marine Blue color is now available for the Model Y and Model 3 Premium models in the US. Only the Model 3 and Model Y Performance models are available in the Frost Blue Metallic color.

Last year, the Model S and Model X were first offered in the Frost Blue Metallic color. This is a cooler, lighter shade of blue that is similar to the Glacier Blue color of the Giga Shanghai-made Model Y Juniper.

A darker shade of blue is called Marine Blue. Compared to the Deep Blue Metallic, it appears considerably deeper and darker. As the name implies, deep oceans served as Tesla's inspiration for this hue.

Frost Blue for Performance

Like Apple, Tesla is providing a premium visual identification for its top-tier models. Frost Blue was only offered on the Model S and Model X from June 2025 until April 2026, at which point the models were discontinued.

The nice news is that choosing this color does not result in an extra cost for North American buyers of the Model 3 and Model Y Performance.
All exterior and interior color options are featured because the Performance variations are now on sale.

Marine Blue for Premium

Tesla has added the Marine Blue color to the popular Rear-Wheel Drive and All-Wheel Drive Premium trim levels. In the past, this hue was only available in the Asia-Pacific and European regions. Glacier Blue, Deep Blue Metallic, Abyss Blue, and now Frost Blue are just a few of the blue hues that Tesla has offered for the Model 3 and Model Y.

Tesla is not offering deals on its most popular trim levels, unlike the Performance model, and choosing Marine Blue comes with a $1,000 USD cost.  Glacier Blue, which is still only available to customers in the Asia-Pacific markets, is the final region-exclusive paint option after Marine Blue arrived in North America.

Stealth Grey, Pearl White, and Diamond Black are remain the only colors available for Standard, or non-Premium, models.

Costs and Availability

Canada and the European market do not currently carry the Frost Blue Metallic color. Frost Blue does not appear to have been added by Tesla to the Giga Berlin paint shop. For those who prefer a blue hue, Marine Blue is offered in Canada and Europe.

Only the United States, Puerto Rico, and Mexico now offer the Frost Blue Paint option for Model Y and Model 3 Performance.

The Model 3/Y Premium AWD and Performance models in the Marine Blue color cost an extra €1,300 in Europe.

The Model 3/Y Performance trim levels in Canada come in Marine Blue. However, the All-Wheel Drive Premium Model Y and Model 3 models cost an extra CAD$1,300.

The cost of the Model 3 or Model Y Performance includes all premium color options in the United States. In the US, Marine Blue is an extra $1,000 for the Model 3/Y Premium.
