On February 11, 2026, WONDERLAB and Peking University Third Hospital (PUTH) launched a clinical study titled “The Efficacy and Mechanisms of an All-in-One Probiotic Intervention in Patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).” The study is designed as a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial and is led by Prof. Duan Liping, Chief Physician of the Department of Gastroenterology at PUTH. It uses WONDERLAB’s All-in-One Probiotics (Blue Bottle 4.0) as the intervention product to explore new approaches to gut-health nutrition.
Why IBS, and Why This Collaboration
IBS is a common functional gastrointestinal disorder, characterized by abdominal pain and bloating along with changes in bowel habits, and it can meaningfully affect daily quality of life. As microbiome research advances, nutritional approaches such as probiotics have become an active area of study in IBS, offering new directions for diversified clinical strategies. PUTH, a recognized authority in clinical and research gastroenterology in China, has long worked in gut microbiota and neurogastroenterology, and its research team and clinical infrastructure provide the scientific foundation and methodological guidance for this project.
Study Focus and Design
At the launch meeting, Prof. Duan Liping announced the formal start of the study. “The onset of IBS is closely associated with imbalances in the gut microbiota, and probiotic intervention is a promising nutritional direction in this field,” she said. “The Department of Gastroenterology at PUTH has long focused on gut microbiota and neurogastroenterology, with substantial clinical and research experience. In this collaboration with WONDERLAB, we will use a rigorous clinical design to systematically evaluate the effects of probiotics in patients with IBS and to explore the underlying mechanisms, aiming to provide practical, evidence-based references for clinical care.”
Led by Prof. Duan’s team and built on PUTH’s clinical research system, the study centers on WONDERLAB’s All-in-One Probiotics (Blue Bottle 4.0) and its core proprietary strains, including Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus GOLDGUT-M520 and Limosilactobacillus reuteri GOLDGUT-LR99. It will evaluate the strains across dimensions such as safety and effect, generating data intended to serve as a scientific reference for selecting probiotic strains.

The study will use a standardized clinical design to evaluate how the product affects core IBS symptoms such as abdominal pain and bloating, while exploring the potential mechanisms of probiotic intervention, building high-quality clinical evidence for the product.
Science-Based Product Development
Evidence-based research is central to WONDERLAB’s approach to product development. This collaboration with PUTH is part of that approach and makes WONDERLAB one of the few Chinese probiotics brands to run a dedicated clinical study on IBS.

The study also draws on WONDERLAB’s research on GOLDGUT-M520. The strain was selected by the company’s R&D team from 453 breast-milk samples collected from healthy mothers across China, and screened through tests for gastric-acid and bile-salt tolerance and for adhesion and colonization. Research has focused on its role in supporting the gut barrier across biological, chemical, mechanical, and immune dimensions.
“Product development in gut health must be built on science,” a WONDERLAB spokesperson said. “PUTH’s standing in gastroenterology is central to this study. Running a high-standard clinical study together allows us to build clinical evidence for our core product and to strengthen the scientific foundation of the brand.”
The launch of this study marks a step in WONDERLAB’s scientific validation of its probiotic products. Its findings are expected to support the company’s product development and to offer new research perspectives and data for the field of nutritional intervention in IBS. Going forward, WONDERLAB says it will continue to work with leading medical and research institutions and to carry out high-standard clinical studies under its evidence-based approach.
About WONDERLAB
WONDERLAB is an R&D-driven biotech company in the microbiome field. Since its founding in 2019, it has invested over RMB 100 million in research and built a full-chain R&D system spanning strain screening, mechanism research, and clinical evaluation, anchored by its proprietary GOLDGUT® strain portfolio. WONDERLAB has established joint laboratories with institutions including the State Key Laboratory at Shandong University, Hainan University, and the China National Research Institute of Food and Fermentation Industries, and carries out clinical studies with leading Chinese hospitals such as Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Peking University Third Hospital, and the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, forming an evidence-based approach to product development. WONDERLAB has been recognized by Frost & Sullivan as the No.1 probiotics brand by sales value in the Chinese mainland for three consecutive years, from January 2021 through December 2023, and has recorded more than 1 billion bottles sold across all channels as of June 2026.
