Ford Motor Company has announced a major safety recall involving over 850,000 vehicles in the United States due to a defect in the low-pressure fuel pump, which could cause engines to stall while driving. The recall, one of Ford’s largest this year, affects a wide range of models manufactured between 2021 and 2023.
According to Ford, the fuel pump may fail particularly under hot weather conditions or when the fuel tank is running low, posing a significant risk to drivers. A failed fuel pump can cut power to the engine, potentially leading to dangerous situations on the road. As of now, there have been no reports of accidents or injuries related to the issue.
The recall impacts some of Ford’s most popular vehicles, including:
Ford F-150
Ford Mustang
Ford Bronco
Ford Explorer
Ford Expedition
Ford Super Duty Trucks (F-250 to F-550)
Lincoln Aviator
Lincoln Navigator
In total, 850,318 vehicles are being recalled. However, Ford estimates that only about 10% of these vehicles are likely to have the defect.
Owners of affected vehicles will begin receiving notification letters from July 14, 2025. A second round of communication will follow once a permanent fix is identified. At present, the remedy is under development. Repairs will be conducted free of charge at authorized Ford and Lincoln dealerships once available.
Ford has urged customers to monitor their vehicle’s performance closely and avoid driving with low fuel levels. Drivers are encouraged to check their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website or Ford’s official recall page to determine whether their vehicle is affected.
For more information, owners can contact Ford Customer Service at 1‑866‑436‑7332, referencing recall code 25S75 or NHTSA recall ID 25V-455.
This marks the 89th recall issued by Ford in 2025, impacting more than 5 million vehicles so far this year. The company has faced increasing scrutiny over recurring safety concerns, although it continues to respond swiftly with voluntary recalls.
In May, Ford recalled more than 1.1 million vehicles due to a rearview camera defect. The current fuel pump recall is the second-largest in volume for the year.
While vehicle recalls may cause inconvenience, they are essential for maintaining safety on the road. Ford advises all affected owners to act promptly once they receive their official notification. Until repairs are completed, drivers should stay alert to engine warning lights, rough idling, or unexpected power loss—signs that the fuel pump may be failing.
