Gemini Spark, Google's new agentic AI assistant, is now available in Gemini's macOS app. The helper transforms Gemini into a "active partner" who can really complete chores for you, according to the company's explanation when Spark was introduced at its I/O developer conference in May.
Gemini Spark is now supported by Gemini for macOS, as demonstrated at I/O 2026. This is the first of two major improvements to desktop apps that will be released this summer; the other is a new voice experience.
For example, on Mac computers, you can request that the enormous quantity of PDFs in your Downloads be (eventually) sorted into designated folders. Additionally, you may instruct it to perform activities on your Workspace apps using data on your computer. For example, you might ask it to make a spreadsheet using bills that are stored on your laptop. Google plans to improve Spark in the future to enable it to perform things that you instruct it to perform from your phone on your PC. For example, you can ask Spark to locate a specific file for your laptop and email it to you if you need it while you're away.
However, you must trust Gemini with your information in order to do all of those duties. If you're concerned about security and privacy, Google claims that the assistant can only access files that you grant it access to. In the upcoming weeks, integration with third-party apps—Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, OpenTable, and Zillow Rental—will also be accessible.
Gemini Spark for macOS is still in beta testing and is only accessible to US customers that are at least 18 years old and pay $100 a month for Google AI Ultra.
Google's personal AI agent, Gemini Spark, is available around-the-clock. Up until now, it has operated by utilizing a cloud computer with code execution capability and a remote browser.
Spark can "help with tasks involving your local files and automate workflows across your desktop" thanks to Gemini's desktop application. Examples include managing "complex workflows across Google Workspace," utilizing local files to create documents, and organizing folders.
“For example, you can turn hours of manual file sorting into an instant action by asking Gemini Spark to sort all the PDFs in your Downloads into specific folders.”
“Gemini Spark also connects your desktop and Google Workspace, so you can simply ask it to create a budget spreadsheet using the latest invoices saved to your computer, and create a schedule to update it regularly.”
Similar to the site, a new "Spark" top tab will appear in the sidebar after installing version 1.80.15.516. What local "Connected folders" Gemini Spark can access is up to you. For example:
"Organize my connected folders. Scan my unorganized files, group them by type or context, and archive the clutter into a clean folder structure. Please show me your organization plan first and ask for my input on where to move them."
Connected folders can always be unlinked from the sidebar. You can also alter current Schedules and Skills thanks to the macOS support.
By default, the latter is activated.
Additionally, a new page about usage limits can be found here. It may be immediately accessed from the account menu in the bottom-left corner. This item previously caused your browser to view gemini.google.com/usage.
Gemini 1.80.x is currently being released using the integrated updater mechanism. A Google AI Ultra subscription ($99+ per month) is necessary for Gemini Spark.
You will be able to "run tasks or access local files on your Mac directly from the web or mobile app" with a future desktop version of Gemini Spark. This is "coming soon."
"You can assign a multi-step task to Gemini Spark from your phone — like asking it to find a specific sales report on your Mac, pull the total revenue number, and email it to you — and let it execute the work on your computer while you’re away."
