Google on Tuesday introduced a new feature called “Create My Widget” for Android that allows users to vibe-code their own personalized widgets. The feature will initially roll out this summer on the latest Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel devices.
To create a widget, users can describe what they want using natural language. For instance, someone could ask the feature to “suggest three high-protein meal prep recipes every week” to generate a custom dashboard that can be added and resized on the home screen.
Similarly, cyclists who are only interested in wind speed and rainfall can create a weather widget that displays only those specific details directly on their home screen.
Gemini can also retrieve information from the web and integrate with Google apps such as Gmail and Calendar to create a single personalized dashboard. For example, while planning a family reunion in Berlin, Gemini can collect flight and hotel details, show restaurant reservations, and even add a countdown timer.
The feature represents Google’s latest effort to integrate generative AI more deeply into the Android experience as technology companies continue competing to make customization tools easier for everyday users.
“This is like you asking your personal assistant a question, and having them just bring you the answer on repeat,” said Ben Greenwood, director of product management for Android Core Experiences, during a media briefing. “So think of it as asking Gemini things about the world, things about its knowledge of what’s going on and events, as well as things about your personal data. Those are sort of the two areas that unlock an enormous number of use cases that we’re super excited about.”
The company revealed the feature alongside the announcement of Gemini Intelligence, which will introduce additional capabilities such as advanced autofill, an AI-powered voice dictation tool for Gboard, and other features.
