PlayStation Store Game Prices Increase in Brazil and Turkey Amid Backlash

  • 30-June-2025

Gamers in Brazil and Turkey are feeling the pinch after Sony quietly raised the prices of several PS4 and PS5 titles. This move comes just months after the company already increased the cost of PlayStation Plus in Brazil and other parts of Latin America—an action that drew heavy backlash.

Despite criticism, Sony has gone ahead with another round of price hikes—this time, on individual games.

Games Getting More Expensive in Key Regions

In Brazil, the cost of several popular PlayStation games has jumped significantly. Titles like Death Stranding 2, Demon’s Souls, and The Last of Us Part 1 have all seen increases of around 50 BRL (roughly $9 USD). Many of these games now cost close to 400 BRL, or about $73 USD.

It’s a similar story in Turkey. There, gamers report that some AAA games now sell for 3,500 Turkish Liras, or approximately $88 USD. That’s a huge hit—especially considering this price amounts to nearly 14% of the country’s monthly minimum wage. In Brazil, the price of a single AAA game equals about 26% of the minimum wage.

Players Say It’s a Broken Promise

What’s making the situation worse for Brazilian fans is that this move goes against what Sony had said just weeks ago. Back in May 2025, Sony’s Brazilian press team claimed there would be no price increases during the summer. They also said that only first-party titles would be affected, and even those would change only after the launch of Ghost of Yotei in October.

But those promises didn’t hold up.

The latest changes were rolled out nearly three months earlier than expected—and not just for first-party exclusives. Third-party games have also seen their prices jump.

Here’s a Look at the New Prices in Brazil:

Game Title New Price (BRL) Old Price (BRL)
Astro Bot 339.90 299.90
Death Stranding 2 399.90 349.90
Demon’s Souls 399.90 349.90
Hell is Us 339.90 299.90
Lost Soul Aside 339.90 299.90
Ninja Gaiden 4 399.90 349.90
Silent Hill f 399.90 349.90
The Last of Us Part 1 399.90 349.90
The Outer Worlds 2 399.90 349.90
WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers 339.90 249.50

One of the most striking changes is for The Outer Worlds 2, which now has a pre-order price of 456 BRL—around $83 USD. That’s more expensive than many deluxe editions in other markets, despite being the standard edition.

Gamers React: “Why Are Old Games Getting More Expensive?”

The backlash is growing online. Many players are pointing out that even older games—like Demon’s Souls (2020) and Infamous Second Son (2014)—are seeing price hikes.

“They’re charging more for games that aren’t even new,” one Brazilian fan wrote on social media. “It makes no sense.”

In Turkey, the situation is just as frustrating. Gamers say the current pricing is not only unfair, but it’s also pricing out an entire generation of players who can't afford to keep up.

Sony’s Response: Blame the Economy

Sony has since issued a statement about the pricing updates. The company explained that the PlayStation Store adjustments are due to “challenging market conditions,” such as currency exchange rate fluctuations.

The company stressed that pricing varies by region and reflects “current economic realities.” Still, for many gamers, that explanation doesn’t ease the sting of having to pay so much more—especially without warning.
