Samsung has started distributing a new Wear OS update for the Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch 7. The May 2026 release focuses on security improvements, helping make the smartwatches more secure. The rollout is currently underway in South Korea, though it is expected to gradually reach additional regions and potentially other Galaxy Watch models in the near future.
While Samsung continues deploying One UI 8.5 across eligible smartphones, the company is also delivering an important update to its wearable lineup. The latest Wear OS release brings the May 2026 security patch to the Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch 7. Galaxy Watches typically receive firmware updates on a quarterly basis, and this update follows the March release, which included the February security patch. Owners of these devices should soon receive a notification that a new update is available.
The May 2026 Wear OS update, which primarily focuses on security enhancements, is now being rolled out to the Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch 7 in South Korea. Other supported models, including the Galaxy Watch 6, Galaxy Watch 5, and Galaxy Watch 4 series, could receive the update within the coming days. The rollout is also expected to expand to additional markets over time, although Samsung has not provided a specific schedule.
The update for the Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch 8 Classic arrives with firmware version AZE1. Meanwhile, Galaxy Watch 7 users are receiving firmware version BZE1. To install the update, users can open the Samsung Wearable app, navigate to Watch settings, and select Watch software update. The smartwatch will then check for available firmware. If an update appears, simply tap Download and install. Once the process is complete, the watch will automatically restart to finalize installation.
Samsung’s May 2026 update addresses 39 security vulnerabilities affecting Android and the One UI platform. Several of these issues have been classified as critical, while others are considered moderate in severity. In addition to security improvements, Samsung firmware updates often include system cache optimizations and reliability enhancements, helping deliver a smoother overall smartwatch experience.
Before beginning the installation process, users should ensure their smartwatch has sufficient battery life and is connected to a reliable Wi-Fi network.
